Besides overhauling work, we manufacture our patented support rod, for which we are applying a worldwide patent.
Instead of a standard copper contactor, it contains a silver contactor coupled directly to the aluminum support rod. This provides various advantages, some of which are for the present still being researched.
The present dominant practice on the market is to utilize friction welding or explosion welding to secure the copper contactor into the aluminum frame. In the technology developed by Valvas Oy, silver is brazed to the aluminum.
Advantages of brazing
• Creating a good quality seam with a 100 percent degree of success
• Acquiring any equipment is not required
• The seam withstands sulphuric acid, further information.
• Brazing technology enables repairing the contactor
Disadvantages
• The final endurance of the seam (1-2 years) in sulphuric acid conditions is not yet known
Advantages of silver
• In comparison to copper, silver conducts electricity 6 % more efficiently
Silver 63.01 × 106 S/m, copper 59.526·106 S/m
• Silver is a more noble metal than copper, and thus it sustains corrosion more efficiently
In corrosive conditions, silver maintains its electricity conductivity better than copper. Consequently during operation the percentual difference increases to the benefit of silver, further information.
• The contactor can be repaired 1-2 times, in which case the material costs caused by the base material will be spared. The life expectancy of the contactor is about 2 years.
Disadvantages
• High price of silver
In the Valvas method, the price will be compensated, as silver will be required much less than copper; a 1-2 mm thick layer is enough.
Loss of Voltage results
without protective finish, which our longterm co-operation partner has kindly handed over to us.
